Walt Disney World Skyliner

The Walt Disney World Skyliner opened in September of 2019 with plenty of expectations and excitement for those who love to stay within the Epcot area of the resort. For those unfamiliar, the Skyliner is a gondola transportation system with five stations that travels from the Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century Resorts, that extends to Epcot (as well as to the resorts located on Disney’s Boardwalk ) and Hollywood Studios. It has stops at Disney’s Riviera Resort, as well as a transfer station next to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, the main hub.

If you’re staying at Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Pop Century, Disney’s Riviera Resort or in the Disney’s Boardwalk area, it makes for an easy way to get to the other resorts if you have a dining reservation at places such as Topolino’s Terrace or Ale and Compass.

The next perk for me are the views of the surrounding area during your excursion. You can see Disney’s Contemporary Resort in the distance, as well Expedition Everest over at Animal Kingdom. You can spot the fellow riders of the Skyliner in their Disney themed gondola.

It’s fun for the kids (and adults). On a nice day, with some down time, you can just ride the Skyliner for pleasure. You can do the entire route from AOA to Epcot and back in 30 minutes. If you enjoy circling the Magic Kingdom area on the Monorail, you will certainly enjoy taking a ride in the Skyliner.

If you’re trying to ride as the parks are opening or closing, you could find yourself waiting 30+ minutes to get aboard. On a hot day, obviously that could be brutal. I’ve never experienced a long wait, but I’ve head stories about them, and with kids, it could be a struggle slowly moving along in a crowd.

The other negative is how easily impacted it is by the weather. If you’re long time Disney goer, you know how it can storm like crazy out of no where. You know also know how careful the resort is when it comes to lightning. Well, if there is lightning in the area, unfortunately, the Skyliner if forced to shutdown until it is deemed safe. That could be very frustrating.

Overall, I enjoy the Walt Disney World Skyliner, and more importantly, my kids enjoy it as well. It has been a welcomed addition to the trip to Disney should we be staying in that area.
